www.recipenet.org MORNING FRUIT SMOOTHIE Yield: approx. 18 oz Ingredients 1/2 small grapefruit, peeled * OR
equal amount fresh pineapple Directions Place all ingredients into Vita-Mix in order listed. Secure lid and insert tamper. Starting at low, walk speed up to high and blend using tamper to push ice into blades. Blend for 30 seconds or until smooth. Notes * There is an easier way to peel citrus fruits than the method shown in the Vita-Mix cookbook. Simply cut the fruit in half from top to bottom (the reverse of how you would cut a grapefruit when intending to eat it with a grapefruit spoon). Cut the halves into quarters. The peels should then come off fairly easily using fingers. Hold the pieces over the Vita-Mix container to catch any juices. When using grapefruit remove as much of the white pith as possible as it can be quite bitter. This is the method of peeling used in some Vita-Mix show demonstrations. * * Hemp nut butter is a complete protein and contains all the essential fatty acids. You can make your own hemp butter using the Vita-Mix. If you cannot get hemp in your area try adding a tablespoon of an EFA oil blend. These oil blends can be found in the refrigerated section of your local health food store. *** An easy way to measure ice: Fill a measuring cup to the one-cup level. Pour into ice cube tray to see how many cubes equal one cup (usually 1/2 a tray). **** The Vita-Mix manual says not to use protein powders as they can damage the blades. I called their headquarters to inquire about this issue and was informed that as long as the protein powder is put on top of the ice it should be OK. The container must be cleaned IMMEDIATELY after use in the manner outlined in the manual to ensure no powder residue remains in the container. '"This breakfast is delicious and very satisfying."
