    Step 1

    To remove their shells and bitter skins, cut a small strip off of each of the nut's shells, and cook the nuts in boiling water for 1 minute. Remove from heat, and peel with a sharp knife. Return any "difficult" chestnuts to the boiling water, and repeat the process.
